How US Women and Girls Lost Their Minds Between 2001 and 2018

It's no secret that something has changed in the last decade when it comes to mental health in the United States. While this is a serious issue facing many women and girls, it's hard to ignore the fact that the main cause of this change is obvious: #Instagram.

For those of us who have been around since the early days of long, depressing captions and sad selfies, it's been quite a ride. We've seen trends come and go, such as the fishtail braid, avocado toast, and glossy lips. We've also seen a shift in mental health problems among women and girls in the US.

What started out as an innocent way to connect with friends has evolved into something much less innocent. We've seen an increase in comparison and competition that can lead to feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem. We've seen a rise in cyber bullying and negative opinions on social media. All of these things, combined with the pressure of trying to be perfect, can take a toll on one's mental health.

While social media can be a great way to connect with friends and explore new trends, it's important to remember the potential negative impacts it can have on mental health. So, if you're looking for a way to stay connected without sacrificing your mental health, maybe it's time to put down the phone and unplug for a while.
